Killer Pseudoku - Run The Numbers

(Published on 24. September 2020, 07:00 by DiMono)

  • Normal Sudoku rules do NOT apply
  • All 1s and 9s are given. Fill the rest of the grid with digits from 2-7 such that each row and column sums to the related number outside the grid (i.e. row 1 sums to 41, etc)
  • No more than 1 digit repeats in any row or column, but multiple digits may repeat in each box. No digit appears more than twice in any row, column, or box
  • Orthogonally adjacent cells may not contain the same digit
  • Killer cages sum to the number in the top left corner, without repeating a digit

The image to the right shows invalid columns and boxes.

  • The first column is invalid because the 3s are touching
  • The second column is invalid because there are 2 repeated digits (4s and 5s)
  • The third column is invalid because there are 3 5s
  • The box is allowed to repeat multiple digits, but it is invalid because there are three 1s

Happy solving!

Made rules more concise. F-puzzles link now contains the word funk ;)

Updated rules, picture, and link, to make the row/column sum part more clear

FANTASTIC puzzle! Took me almost 1h20m, and that after an initial internet failure, where I had to start over again..But the logic was so nice in this one, from the beginning break in to the actual solving path! Thanks @DiMono

That was quite taxing, had to keep checking which column/row I was looking at not just the digits, but was satisfying to solve :)

(like the name Pseudoku, quite apt)

@MartinR Thanks for sticking with it! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Normal sudoku rules DO NOT apply, but sudoku tag added.... ok ok

@geronimo It's still on a sudoku grid, and the boxes still matter. It's just not 1-9 in every row/box/column.

Added NEU tag, updated name from Sudoku to Pseudoku (because it's not quite a sudoku, but it's like one)

@Narayana I like the Pseudoku name, it has a good ring to it. :-)

@DiMono This is definitely a different puzzle type which is related to a sudoku, so maybe you should also add the "NEU" label/icon. It looks interesting, so I will give it a go.

Very nice puzzle!
I have a suggestion. Since this is not a Sudoku anymore maybe a new title could be Killer Pseudoku (as in pseudo-sudoku)?

@Narayana I was going to call it an anti-sudoku, but I wasn't sure it would be interpreted the way I intended. It's still in a sudoku grid and the boxes still matter, so it's not entirely not a sudoku. I can be swayed by public opinion.
