Killer Sudoku - The Cloverleaf

(Published on 6. September 2020, 13:21 by Phistomefel)

This puzzle is a classical killer sudoku. Many thanks to ahaupt for the inspiration through his ingenious puzzles!

The usual sudoku rules apply. An area surrounded by a dashed line is called a cage. A number in the upper left corner of a cage indicates the sum of the digits within the cage. Digits may not repeat within a cage.

The puzzle is also available online via f-puzzles. Have fun solving!

The entry into the puzzle consists of two steps, which are not necessarily easy to see. If you have difficulties with the start of the puzzle, simply mark the lines under "Step 1" and/or "Step 2", which each contain a hint.

Step 1:

Examine the interplay of the two 4x4 squares marked with "#":

Step 2:

Examine the interplay of the two 4x4 squares marked with "#":

The rectangle R1C1 until R5C4 must have the same digits as the rectangle R6C5 until R9C9, the former already has a total of 75, the latter already has a total of 95. The difference of 20 can only happen with 1,2,3,4 and 6,7,8,9 quads.
Similar holds for the symmetrical equivalent rectangles.

Normally I would take a day or 2 to find the entry, but today seeing the 15 from R6C78 folding into blocks 3 and 7 just jumped out at me. Lovely puzzle - Thank you

That was a really fun puzzle Phistomefel. One of Simon's CTC solutions from this summer was very helpful for this one.
