Sudoku Variants Series (284) - Isolation Killer Sudoku

(Published on 2. September 2020, 00:00 by Richard)

For this Sudoku Variants ProjectI have planned to publish a different Sudoku variant every week. I will see how long it takes before I am running out of ideas.

Isolation Killer Sudoku
Apply classic sudoku rules.
The small numbers in the upper left corner of the dotted outlined areas indicate the sum of the digits in that area. A digit that is placed in a dotted outlined area may not appear in an area that is orthogonally adjacent to that area.

Inspiration for this type comes from Phistomefel.

Online version here (F-puzzle). Thanks to Narayana.

Solution code: Row 6, followed by column 4.

Thanks for making this very fun puzzle! I really enjoyed the logic :-)

It is thinkable that the digit in R1C1 also appears in a cage that is in box 2 or 4 such that it had to be separated... It serves at least an aesthetic reason, yes.

on 2. September 2020, 15:19 by henrypijames
Why is R1C1 sitting in its own cage? Whatever is there can obviously not be repeated in the same box, or the 2-cell cage in box 2. Is it just for aesthetic symmetry with R9C9?
