Cave Fillomino #1 (10x10)

(Published on 29. August 2020, 11:40 by Jesper)

This is the full-sized cave fillomino puzzle that I made a reference to in the 5x5 puzzle posted last week. This one is considerably harder, so it might not be a bad idea to solve the small puzzle first, to get used to the rule-set. Enjoy, and as always, I am very grateful for any feedback!

Rules

1) Standard Filomino rules apply:
- Divide the grid into orthogonally connected regions
- Each cell must contain a number equal to the number of squares in its region
- No two regions of same size may share an edge

2) Cave hybrid rules apply:
- Some of the cells are to be shaded gray, so that all gray cells (the walls) are orthogonally connected to the edge, and all remaining cells form an orthogonally connected area (the cave)
- In an orthogonally connected area of gray cells, no numbers may repeat
- Each cell marked with a large circle is inside the cave, and its number indicates how many cave cells can be seen from it orthogonally (including the cell itself), given that walls obstruct the view
- For some clue cells, the number needs to be determined during the solve
- The top right cell is given as part of the wall, and therefore shaded gray from the start; it still needs a number in it

Example:

Penpa: Cave Fillomino #1 (10x10)

SudokuPad Cave Fillomino #1 (10x10)

The puzzle follows:

-------

Solution code: row 8 followed by column 8; in case of two-digit numbers, enter only the last digit (in total 20 digits, no spaces or commas)

"Considerably harder" - Jesper can consider himself an honorary Brit for his mastery of understatement. What a puzzle, nearly made my head explode. Thanks!

I was completely stuck on how to proceed mid-solve until a eureka moment when everything just clicked. It was smooth after that. Very satisfying solve!

At some point it seems clueless, yet as soon as as I finally figure out it resolves like magic.

Very cool and unique puzzle. The difficulty is not that high, apart from a few steps.

Amazing puzzle, the logic with the large wall was very clever and satisfying once I understood it. It feels almost magical the way it resolved at the end.

What. The. Hell ??
How did you come up with that ?
The midsolve was crazy hard for me, I kept thinking I had broken it earlier because I couldn't find the right configuration, so when it clicked, man, that was a rare satisfactory moment ! Thanks again Jesper.

Prior to doing this puzzle the total amount of experience I had with both Cave and Filomino was doing the teaser :) I should have probably done some easier things first but Vebby whole-heartedly recommended it, so I went for it! Some real neat deductions and realizations in here! Very Nice!

Wow, what a puzzle! Absolutely gorgeous construction! I got stuck for a while in the middle but once the logic was found the puzzle flowed smoothly again. Thanks for setting these puzzles, Jesper!

EDIT @Prutsbeest: Thanks for solving so many puzzles from my back catalogue, and for the nice comments! It really makes me happy to hear that you are enjoying these slightly older puzzles. Have a nice day! Regards, Jesper

Wonderful puzzle. Very challenging as well, even after solving the 5x5.

Looking forward to cave fillomino #2!

@Dandelo: vielen Dank!
