Hey everyone -- this is (I think) a new variant I'd love you all to try!
In this puzzle: normal sudoku rules apply.
In addition, each row has a height, which are the numbers in the first column, and each column has a width, which are the numbers in the first row. Each cell has an area equal to its height * width, according to its position. The total area of a colored region or 'area cage' is the sum of the areas of each of its cells. The area of each ‘area cage’ must be deduced, and these areas must appear horizontally (left to right) or vertically (going down) somewhere within each cage. Numbers within an area cage do not repeat. The colors are meaningless.

I looked at this on paper for a while without making much progress. But during a bike ride later in the day I remembered enough about it to figure out how to get started. After that it didn't take long to finish it. Thanks for another great puzzle!
Warning: You probably shouldn't try to solve sudokus while biking. If you do, please wear a helmet.

Wow, good job!
There's definitely some math, which might not be for everyone, but there's not quire as much as one might think -- of course I realized that mostly after the fact.
After the start, the path from cage to cage was nice -- the only one that tripped me up was the 2x2 blue one because of a multiplication error and my forgetting one of the rules.

Nice puzzle. Requires a bit of math, but nothing more complicated than a few multiplications. Everything else is pure logic. I'd gladly solve more puzzle with this variant.
