Empty Cages II

(Published on 19. August 2020, 23:54 by clover)

Empty Cages I is here and is somewhat easier than this one!

- Normal sudoku rules apply

- Odd digits are always positive. Even digits are always negative.

- The sum of the digits in each cage is 0.

- Digits are not repeated within a cage.

- Note that the colors in the grid don't symbolize anything! They're just there to make the cages easier to see, since I found this puzzle a bit visually overwhelming. :)

Wow, very challenging puzzle, felt a lot more difficult than the first one. 5 stars difficulty for me. Great construction to make it without any given digits or cell parities! Enjoyed finding the breakthroughs.

As Richard mentioned in the other puzzle, this type has been frequently used some years ago under the name "Equal Sudoku". You can find one be me in the following link.

I didn't solve it yet, but it is quite an impressive construction to do that without givens! I tried for a couple of days in my puzzle and finally gave up and added a digit. Nice to see that it can be done (though it always felt like it is not impossible, it was just a lack of experience and time on my side.)
