Architect Sudoku

(Published on 18. August 2020, 20:25 by purple people eater)

Normal sudoku rules apply. The grid, except for the grey cells in the center, must be completely filled with the number-shaped regions shown below (regions can be rotated or reflected). The all numbers in the highlighted boxes (both given numbers and numbers filled in as the puzzle progresses)indicate the shape of the region that the colored square is part of. All the numbers in each given region add up to a multiple of the region’s shape. Not all shapes of regions must be used, and not all regions must contain a colored square.

Not too hard once you focus on the givens that are most constrained by the geometry. Enjoyed it, thanks!

Obviously the tiling part is tricky; I suddenly managed to find a working pattern, did some sudoku, and in the very final moment remembered one of the rules I had so far not used. There probably is a logical way of doing it, but I must confess I found the solution more by luck than anything else.

It includes numbers filled into the cells.

When you say "The numbers in the highlighted boxes indicate the shape of the region that the colored square is part of", does that only refer to the given numbers? Or does that include numbers that are filled into those cells?
