Why was 6 afraid of 7? Killer sudoku

(Published on 8. July 2020, 13:54 by KevinCelis)

Because 7 8 9.

Normal sudoku rules apply.

6 is afraid of 7, therefor, 6 is never directly adjacent to a 7, neither orthogonallly nor diagonally.

In the killer cages (cages bordered with a dashed line), the number in the upper left corner indicates the respective sum of all digits in this cage. Digits may not repeat in the killer cages. (colors are purely decorative)

7 is the true killer in this sudoku. When 9 appears in the same cage as a 7, it gets eaten, meaning it counts as a 0 in the killer cage total.

The numbers around the edge of the puzzle indicate the danger levels for 9. It is the amount of cells between 7 and 9 in that row/column.

LOL I love how the nine is missing two chunks in Rows 12 because 7 bit it. :D

enjoyed it. Nice theme drawing.

Really nice puzzle, a bit more on the easy side of things.

Really nice work for a first construction. It's funny, innovative and the theme is well used and provides just enough constraints to get a start.

Another user suggested trying to remove givens to make it harder. I know "empty grids" are popular right now, but I would remove the danger levels on the sides instead. While solving, it seemed like it was too easy to follow them and it felt like something we just had to get out of the way to really begin solving.

Overall you constructed a really nice puzzle. Thanks a lot.

Thanks RockyRoar. I did want the puzzle to be slightly harder with less given digits, but I didn't find a setup where I didn't end with unsolvable pairs, or where the puzzle was so hard I couldn't finish it myself (and thus not test it haha).

The 9 is incomplete by the way, because the 7 took a bite out of it. ;)
