In every row and column, each digit from 1 to 9 occurs exactly once. In addition, there are 9 continuous regions in which each digit from 1 to 9 occurs exactly once. These regions however are only given indirectly.
A number in the top left corner of a cell indicates the sum of the digits, that are seen from this cell looking to the north, south, east and west. The cell with the clue counts once in this sum. Cells outside of the same region block the visiblity.
Have fun solving! The puzzle is also available online at Penpa.

This is excellent puzzle! It's impressive how many little steps you managed to fit in on this set of rules, just to identify the regions. This is truly high level construction.
Also, ahaupt, I would like to thank you for the puzzles you posted here. I have recently played most of them and my undestanding of sudoku improved because of it. Not only they are interesting, but your usage of geometry can definitely work as a learning material too. So, once again - thank you.

Yes, I agree, because firstly it's an unusual concept and secondarily the beginning might be tricky to spot.
Thanks for playing it though!

Great puzzle! I think this is harder than most recent puzzles rated as 4 star difficulty. But ok, a hard 4 or an easy 5, I guess.
