Anti-Knight Killer Sudoku - Balanced cages

(Published on 31. May 2020, 22:31 by ahaupt)

This puzzle is a generalisation of killer sudoku. The usual sudoku rules apply. An area surrounded by a dashed line is called a cage. A number in the upper left corner of a cage indicates the sum of the digits within the cage.

Within each cage, the digits are 'balanced' and the frequencies of the digits are 'as equal as possible':

  • In cages with sum ... ≤ 45, each digit occurs at most once, just like in usual killer sudoku.
  • In cages with sum 46 ≤ ... ≤ 90, each digit occurs either once of twice.
Example: A cage with sum 48 and size 11 must contain the digits 11223456789.

Additionally, cells that are a knight's move (chess) apart must not contain the same digit.

The puzzle is also available online at Penpa.

Solution code: 2nd row, 2nd col.

This is very good puzzle. I like how there are very few clues, but it's still solvable. For those who don't mind thinking a lot, I would recommend trying this one. Thank you for posting it - I will definitely check out other puzzles you have created.

I forgot to state the anti-knight constraint. I'm sorry about that!
