Sudoku Bounce House #2

(Published on 25. May 2020, 08:39 by Big Tiger)

Standard Sudoku Rules apply to the final numerical layout.

Welcome to the Sudoku Bounce House!

Arrows on each trampoline indicate the direction a player will jump, and numbers placed on the trampolines indicate how far.

All forty trampolines have corresponding Safety Mats (empty squares) for a safe landing, and no two trampolines use the same safety mat. Forty trampolines, forty mats, and one ticket booth.

And for the little kids, we have marked selected trampolines with a Smile These trampolines will safely bounce the young jumpers to a mat with a lower number than the trampoline. All other trampolines will jump either to the same number or a higher one. Have fun!

Setter's Diary :: May 25, 2020 :: A few weeks ago, I uploaded the first "Sudoku Bounce House". It used every square on the grid. One of the solvers suggested creating one that reduced the number of trampolines to the bare minimum needed to solve the Sudoku numbers. I have spent the whole week working on that idea and have gotten it down to 30 trampolines and 30 landing pads, leaving 20 spaces (plus the ticket booth) that rely entirely on the other 60 numbers for solving. I have tried hard to reduce the trampolines even further, and a more experienced puzzle master may be able to, but I'm worn out from trying and am ready to publish it and move on, ha ha!

Solution code: The numbers of Column 5, from the top to the ticket booth.

After it took me almost all of the solving time of the first puzzle to understand the rule of the smilies (did not read correctly), I could finally apply it here. ;-) I still like the idea and had fun solving it.
