Mathematical Sudoku

(Published on 21. May 2020, 06:34 by DanjerBob)

Normal Sudoku rules apply. If there is a math symbol between two cells, those cells are part of an equation. The answer to the equation is to be written in the same row or column as the two cells so that it is read in a straight line with no other numbers in between. It may go forwards, backwards, up, or down, but cannot turn.

e.g. 9x2 may be written as |9|2|1|8| or |8|1|9|2|. It may not be written as |1|8|9|2| because reading right to left it would say 2x9=81 which is false. The exponent symbol (^) is the same: 2^3 can either be read forwards as |2|3|8| or backwards as |9|2|3|.

The numbers in the answer may be multiple digits but the starting numbers are always single digits.

All possible equations in the grid are accounted for, meaning that if no symbol is present, there cannot be an equation there. However, if there are multiple ways to place a symbol for the same equation, or if two numbers have two possible symbols between them, only one symbol is given. E.g. 9-7=2 and 9=7+2 count as the same equation, and |6|3|2|5| could have either a + or x between 3 and 2. In either case, only one symbol is given.

Two symbols near each other must be part of different equations. E.g. 3x2x9 cannot be 54. It must be written as |6|3|2|9|1|8| because 2x3=6 and 2x9=18

Updated grid to add missed symbol (does not affect solve). Clarified rules. Maybe one day I will submit a perfect puzzle with perfect rules that I don't have to edit

There is a symbol missing in C2 (236).Not sure if there are more missing.

- Thank you I will update. I thought I triple checked everything but I wasn't careful enough

Hi. Simple question : should the answer to an equation be located just before or after the equation itself or is it possible to have digits between equation and its answer (92xxxx18 for example)?

- Hello, thanks for the question I'll update the rules to make it more clear. It must be directly attached to the equation it cannot have extra digits in between
