Mystery Sandwich Clones Sudoku
(Published on 6. May 2020, 18:02 by MartinR)
- Standard Suduko rules apply
- Numbers outside the grid refer to the sum of the digits sandwiched between the digits "A" and "B"
- "A" and "B" are not given, and need to be deduced (but are the same for all rows/columns)
- There are three shaded areas in the grid
- Two of these are clones of each other, and contain the same 4 distinct digits
- The other area has contains 4 different distinct digits
- Which areas are the clones ("the two slices") and which is the other ("the filling") also has to be deduced
- For example, if it is found the cloned regions contain the digits "1,2,3,4" then the other region must contain four of the five digits ("5,6,7,8,9")
links to solve online at penpa are available as orignally set, above and the more restricted version, below
Seeing this solved on "Cracking the Cryptic" revealed to me that some of the constraints weren't actually required. With the given clues, the solution could still be deduced without them, albeit with a different solution path than intended. So, below is the same puzzle, with two less clues, still solvable, but the solution path should be more restricted.
Solution code: row 1 and row 4
