ALL chess pieces sudoku

(Published on 3. May 2020, 14:29 by BcVcB)

Normal sudoku rules apply. The nine digits take the roles of nine chess pieces: 1 king, 1 queen, 2 rooks, 2 knights, 2 bishops (1 light-squared, 1 dark-squared) and 1 pawn. This correspondence of digits to chess pieces is unknown for now. The following rules apply on the 8x8 bottom left squares (the chess board):

  • Bishops and pawns may only be on squares that they can visit on the chess board:
    • No pawn may be in the bottom row.
    • Bishops may only be on squares of their color (light or dark).
  • The other digits cannot be on squares where they would attack themselves:
    • The queen digit occurs at most once per diagonal.
    • The king digit may not be diagonally adjacent to itself.
    • A knight digit may not be a knight's move from itself.
    • For rooks, this imposes no restriction beyond the usual sudoku rules.
NOTE: The additional rules do not apply to digits in row 1 or column 9, where they are off the chess board. The second rule imposes no restriction on bishops or pawns, e.g. several bishops may share a diagonal.

@TwisterMonkey: I'm not sure if I understand your comment: In chess, pawns start in the 2nd row from the player's point of view and move upwards, thus they cannot be in the bottom row. Accordingly, this rule forbids the pawn digit to be in the bottom row of the chess board. Is the confusion that an opponent's pawn in chess could reach the bottom row, since they move in the opposite direction? If not, in what sense do the rules appear to contradict?

@BcVcB Can you please clarify these rules as they contradict.
"Bishops and pawns may only be on squares that they can visit on the chess board"
"No pawn may be in the bottom row"
