The Killer Lockbox

(Published on 30. April 2020, 05:59 by Orpheus)

This is a straightforward killer variant Sudoku. I designed it as a lock box. If you get the opening move it will lay out easily for you. If not, then it can be solved, but it's a little like breaking a lock with a hammer. Have Fun!!

This is my very first handset puzzle, so please be kind, but feedback is very welcome.

After some comments I've been lead to believe that the solve on this is very easy, so I lowered the rating and waffled on about it less. Thanks to everyone for being so kind in the comments.

Solution code: Give the digits of row 4 from left to right.

There was a sum error in box 1. It has been corrected.

Perhaps, this is the 'opening move'...? ;-)

As Richard said, the puzzle becomes solvable if you change the top left cage (8) to a 16.

Your intended strategy is very easy to spot and based on that I changed the sum of the cage top left so it would suit with the strategy. That worked. The puzzle turned out to be a filling excercise after that.

I get a contradiction after 1 minute of solving. If I see it correct, the total count of clues doesn't add to 405. Are you sure all cage sums are correct?
