10-in-9 killer sudoku #1

(Published on 25. January 2020, 15:20 by Nylimb)

This is a variant of a killer sudoku, in which some cells contain 2-digit numbers.

Fill the grid with 1-digit and 2-digit numbers, so that every row, column, and 3x3 box contains each of the 10 digits, from 0 to 9, exactly once: Eight cells contain 1-digit numbers, and the other cell contains a 2-digit number (from 10 to 98).

In each cage indicated by the dotted lines, the number at the top left is the sum of the numbers in the cage. Also, no digit can occur more than once in a cage, whether it's alone in a cell or part of a 2-digit number.

The puzzle is available on Penpa.

Solution code: Row 3 and row 7. Include both digits of the 2-digit numbers.

What a mind-bending killer variant! This one had a very narrow and rewarding solve path, especially since I was figuring out the variant for the first time. Will definitely be coming back to try the others :)

The 10-in-9 tag disappeared from several of my puzzles, so I'm adding it again.

Added Penpa link.

Whew, tough (for me at least). Lots of great logical steps. Had to start over once, but worth it. Terrific puzzle.

I'm trying to add all relevant tags to my puzzles. There are 4 tags for killer sudokus, so I've added all of them.

Added 10-in-9 tag.

@zuzanina: Your solution code is almost right, but you have the wrong numbers in row 7, columns 7 and 8.

What a nice idea for a puzzle!

@Dandelo: Thanks, I didn't know that. I'll try it for my next puzzle.

Have you tried to upload the EPS-file? It should be converted automatically.

on 31. January 2020, 01:20 by Nylimb
@Dandelo: Thanks. I've been using an EPS program that I wrote, but I'll try the one that you suggested. (The problem wasn't with the EPS program itself, but when I converted the resulting PDF file to PNG format I used too small a resolution.)

You can try to use the eps-template from the puzzlewiki. That should make it easier to layout the puzzle and the output has always a high quality.

Thank you for the puzzle, unfortunately you encountered a bug. If you leave the english version empty, the german version is shown regardless of language settings. But the other way is not working at the moment. Most users here are fine with english instructions though.

This is my first published puzzle here. According to the "How to publish puzzles" page (https://tinyurl.com/yx6t4kuk), since I originally left the German version empty, the English version should have been visible to everyone. I don't know why it wasn't. I've added a translation from Google; I hope it's good enough.

Added German translation.
