Wichtel 2018 (5): Japanische U-Bahn

(Published on 29. November 2019, 02:18 by wichtel)

To Christmas 2018 some eager puzzlefriends have again arranged a group in which everybody had to make anonymously a puzzle for someone else. These puzzles are now presented one after the other here in the portal.

Japanese subway

The chief gnome was just busy with collecting and sorting the gnome presents when he spotted a piece of paper sticking out from under the parcels. Carefully he pulled it out and threw a glance at it. O yes, a souvenir from his summer holidays in Japan. A subway plan. The plan of the line 2412. As a Christmas gnome he had necessarily to take it with him. But what was that in the background? In thick lines the stations and routes of the subway were drawn. And behind stood yes - numbers?! Excited he adjusted his reading glasses and took a closer look: The background was made up of he digits 1 to 9 - each once per row and column. Thence he got an idea: He grabbed a pencil and a piece of paper. Thereupon he draw a grid of size 9x9. On the right and underneath he noted for each type of route segments the number of their appearances. Just like in a normal subway puzzle.

On the left and above he wrote the sums of digits from one station to the next completely and in the right order; this means: the straight route parts either till the next corner or the next branch or crossing. In doing so he counted digits on straight segments once, on corners twice, on branches thrice and digits on crossings four times.

"Wonderful", he muttered as he folded the puzzle and put it into a red envelope with 24 golden stars on it , "now I add "Merry Christmas!" and then the present can be delivered on time".

Solution code: The values of the two main diagonals starting top left and top right.

on 29. November 2019, 17:14 by Mody

Vielen Dank nochmal. :)
