Place lighted candles in some of the empty cells. Each clue determines the total height of all candles in the up to eight adjacent cells. Candles without neighbouring candles have height 4. Since the heat of nearby candles melts wax, the height of a candle has to be reduced by 1 for each orthogonally adjacent candle. There are no candles of height 0.
Solution code: Row 5 from left to right: the height of each candle and - for empty cells

Schöne Idee, schwierig ist, dass man einmal diagonal mitdenken muss, das andere mal nicht. Aber das Bild mit den Kerzen hilft dabei :-)

@ibag: Danke Dir Gabi, das hat man davon, wenn man beim Morgenkaffee das Grid schnell abzeichnet und während ein paar Bissen an der Skizze herumknabbern will. Die 2 hatte ich einfach nicht mitgezeichnet.
