Numbers outside the grid indicate the sum of the first X digits in the corresponding direction. X is the first digit in the corresponding direction.
Solution code: Row 5, followed by column 6.

This is indeed (at least for the portal) a new variant. I first came across it in the LMI sudoku test of May this year.
Sometimes I am surprised new sudoku variants are still invented every now and then. And by seeing work from other authors, it gives me fresh new ideas for other new variants as well. I have already some real new things in mind for future sudokus...
