Normal sudoku rules apply, and all clues are standard.
Digits cannot repeat on the indicated diagonal.
Arrows: the sum of the digits along an arrow is equal to the digit in the connected circle.
Little killer clues: numbers outside the grid give the sum of the digits along the indicated diagonal.
Digits in cells with a shaded square must be even.

It was between a 3 and 4 for me. The hard part for me was that while you know where to look to really break in it was hard for me to know which technique to start applying there. I went through several before hitting the right one. So I think the ease depends on which technique you start with. It could end being anywhere from like a 25min to 1hr+ solve.

For me on the easier side of three star puzzles these days, but I may have been lucky on some steps or just got more aware to your style. Your harder puzzles often have this unique sense of "not complicated, but strangely particular" difficulty to them, that has tripped me up a number of times before. Really fun puzzle overall. Great interactions between the clues.

Hm I didn’t say “mellon” [sic]

Mellon.

Nah that’s a solid 3 in my book, but definitely very nice!

knowing this is a james sinclair puzzle makes it easier, but still is hard.
hint: say "mellon" (or find the 1 on the diagonal), and the puzzle solves. otherwise, you will be stuck outside.

Has some nice steps throughout the solve.

I found it quite harder than casual 3 because of an important realization in the mid solve, but what a great fun and elegant puzzle!
This puzzle kind of reminded me to put you into my “setter follow list” on here (which does exist as a feature btw) x)

Appreciate it! And I agree, I had it at 4 initially, but with the difficulty inflation around here I can't be too surprised it's dropped to 3

What a brilliant puzzle! Much thinking to do at the start. And then things fall in place so beautifully.
