Mirrored Zippers

(Eingestellt am 6. Februar 2024, 19:07 Uhr von gdc)

I recently solved an awesome modifier puzzle (LMD#GUC) after which I got motivated to create my first zipper puzzle with modifiers. This uses mirrored digits which you might remember from Who's the man in the mirror. Thanks to everyone who supported me via testing and feedback and especially cornish john, Christounet and sirxemic.

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • Values an equal distance to the circled center of a lavender zipper line sum to the value of the central digit.
  • In every row, column and box, is a mirrored digit. It takes the value opposite to its digit on the 1-9 scale. (In other words, 1 takes the value of 9, 2 the value of 8... 9 the value of 1) Each digit 1-9 is mirrored once. Unmirrored digits use their digits as values.

This was a delight to solve on ThePedallingPianist's stream. Really nice easy-to-grasp concept, delivered in a beautiful smooth way. Enjoyed the two little zippers in box 9... cheeky

I saw the difference with the missing clue when I started solving and told myself to remember it for later, but then when I got to that part it really wasn't needed! There's a little jump in the logic but it's entirely reasonable. Very fun puzzle, I enjoyed this one!

The sudokupad version seems to be missing one of the zippers in box 9 compared to the image here. Is it not needed for the solve?

gdc: sorry, I accidentally removed the clue when I updated the rules wording. It has been re-added again. The clue is redundant, but simplifies one part that was considered too hard by some testers.

Update rules-wording to say that zippers consider values, not digits. Thanks @koba1917 for pointing that out.

You should clarify if the values of the digits sum to the "Value" of the central digit, or the digit itself.

Given Simon's love for both Zipperline puzzles and 'adjusted value' puzzles, expect to see this on CTC in the near future.

Very nice use of the constraint ! Glad some other setters are using in their puzzles. Enjoyed testing this. Thanks :)
