I Made A Pencil Puzzle: Ciphered Tapa (18x18)
(Eingestellt am 12. Dezember 2023, 11:00 Uhr von Playmaker6174)
A special puzzle edition from myself! For this year's Christmas holiday, I decided to make a big tapa puzzle with some additional small twists.
Tapa is one of the genres that I've solved more than others but I actually haven't set tapa much, and with the desire of making it feel more special as a holiday gift, I tried one step further and made quite a big one with some hopes that it'll retain the joy throughout.
As a novice tapa setter, I hope everyone will enjoy this gift here!
Rules:
- In the 18x18 grid, shade some cells so that all shaded cells form one orthogonally connected area and no 2x2 area is entirely shaded.
An unshaded cell is given.
- A clue with number[s] cannot be shaded and it represents the length[s] of the shaded group[s] surrounding that clue. If there are two or more numbers in a clue, then each group of shaded cells must be separated by at least one unshaded cell.
However: all clues given in the grid are ciphered and solvers need to deduce which letter will belong to which clue. Luckily, some of the information have also been given as below:
+ Letters A,B,C,D,E,F correspond to the available single number clues.
+ Letters G,H,J,K,L,M,N,O,P correspond to the available multi numbers clues.
+ Letter I is a 'wildcard' clue, it's considered as a single number clue but it represents different value each time it appears in the grid.
+ Except the "letter I" part, same letters will correspond to same clues and different letters will correspond to different clues.
The puzzle can also be solved online in this
Penpa link. The answer check in the link will trigger for the shading part only, but it's recommended finishing writing in the tables besides the main grid as well.
Good luck and have fun solving!
Lösungscode: Enter the lengths of the continuous shaded groups in the last three rows 16-17-18 (row 16 first, then row 17 and then row 18)

Merry Christmas!
Nice puzzle, 5 stars for difficulty in my opinion.
I also just made a pencil puzzle for christmas, with a twist even though it's my first of the type. I keep coming across these kinds of coincidences...:D
