One side medians

(Eingestellt am 29. Dezember 2021, 14:23 Uhr von bigger)

The idea comes from RockyRoer

  • Standard sudoku rules applies. Fill the grid with numbers from 1 to 6 so each digit occurs exactly once in every row, column and regions.
  • The digits is the median between two closest borders, either horizontally or vertically. But the digit can’t be both the median of the vertical and horizontal group.
  • Recall, the median of an even number of cells is the average of the middle two numbers when numbers are written in order. The median of an odd number of cells is the middle number when numbers are written in order.
    • ex: 5 is the median of 5 46 158 1379
    • ex: The green digit is shown while the red are not. Grey can be red or green.
  • All possible digits are given.

I just realized I still have two median in stock. I kind of don’t want to leave this year’s idea for the next, so here it is.setting this puzzle is painfully hard. On one hand, I want blocks to nerf the median. On the other hand, nobody likes blocky regions. 6X6 is just too small for this. As for 9X9, nope. It’s too much work or my brain. Checking every cell for median is really nerve breaking. Just, no.

As for the quads, it’ll never happen again. With Old Miles advise, I just found out average is useless when the divisor is fixed. So in median quads, every clue times 2 and the clue is the sum of the middle. Negative restraint is all possible even clues are given. Mean quads is just an unnecessary variant of quad sum. So every mean quad variant I thought of is thrown to a bin. Ain’t no new stuff in quads.

By the way, this year’s Christmas is a little bit less exciting than last year. Sure there’s more region drawing variant than before. But where’s Christmas series, where’s Santa theme variants? I missed seeing those puzzles with colorful background.
