Logic Masters Deutschland e.V.

A co-worker and friend of mine passed away on December 25, 2020 after a long and painful battle with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease). We are coming up on the one year anniversary of his death. I made this puzzle in the spring after realizing that I had not properly grieved the loss of my friend. Covid-19 regulations at the time made it difficult for me to connect with others. So I channeled my thoughts and grief into a the 9 by 9 Sudoku grid. This is the puzzle that resulted. I have the name JOE in green in the middle. His wife's name is TRICIA and I have her name in red. She is also a co-worker of mine. The black dots represent the three girls that they had together. One of his girls has married and her husband is represented by the white dot. I chose the colours red and green as he passed away on Christmas Day. This is very sentimental puzzle and definitely helped me in my grief. I did not make it too difficult as I wanted many to enjoy it and honour my friend Joe and possibly feel inspired to donate to ALS research. I hope you enjoy my puzzle. RIP Joe

Digits in a cage must sum to the total in the top left corner of the cage.

Digits on thermometers must increase from the bulb end. If the ends of two thermometers meet, the highest digit is directly in between the bulbs.

Black dots indicate the two digits must have a ratio of 3:1. Not all black dots given.

White dots indicate consecutive digits. Not all white dots are given.

Colours are not mandatory for the solve and are only meant to highlight the names. Here are both versions.
