The idea copies from RockyRoer
This puzzles is made by Old Miles from China. I did not know there’s a thing called mid-range until this puzzle. Obviously, it’s too useless in statistic. Any abnormal data would sabotage the mid-range. However, 9 digit wouldn’t matter that much.
Spoilers I’m going to talk about this puzzle, It’ll spoil the fun figuring the tricks yourself.
The interesting about mid-range and median in quads is that while median looks easy, mid- range is the actual easy. For instance, a 3 in median doesn’t have 3 in quads but has 124 in quads, which is 19 pencil marked digits gone. In mid-range, a 3 doesn’t have 6789 in quads and has 15 in quads, which is 26 pencil marked digits gone. However, there’s still one thing that makes mid-range smoother, the negative restraint. It’s more straight forward than median, one step less. At this point, mean quads is just the mean of median and mid-range.

Does anybody know where you can play this?
Bigger: Is there a problem with the image, like unable to show or download the file? On my side the image can be downloaded
Scatterbrain: So this puzzle should be done on pen and paper?
Bigger: There's no such thing as should be. I use the drawing function in my cellphone. Why would I want to change my solving habit to appeal to a different audience? Also, online solving is so slow and has no feedback from the solvers. It's also not an ideal presentation of a puzzle, for me. The rule should be at the top, not bottom left. I just don't think the tools solvers chose should be what the setter take in consideration
Scatterbrain: OK. Thanks for your input.

I think you can choose better examples for “midrange” since those two examples also have medians of 5 so it’s not clear that this is a new thing and not just a new name for medians. Perhaps examples like 1449 is five or 4458 is six may be more helpful.
Bigger: I could, but that's not my style. I add examples because you did. But I think the rule is clear enough, why not have some fun with the examples, I might have a chance tricking those who only read the examples

interesting logic with a powerful negative constraint. nice. thanks.
