Lovely variation of the initial tableaux thermo idea. Familiarity with the logic in a double-digit thermo helped, so it went fairly smoothly. Thanks :-)

Glad you enjoyed it! It does take a little bit to get a feel for the rules, but I'm pleased with the way the cages ended up interacting. The intention was for it to be a roughly 2/5 difficulty puzzle with room for an extra 1/5 difficulty for getting the hang of unfamiliar rules.

Got my head around the rules then had fun with it. Thanks! I enjoyed the solve path, and the colored version helped.

Swapped the color-shaded version to one that is hopefully clearer

Is something like this clearer? https://f-puzzles.com/?id=yj2rwjbk I was worried the tableau in the middle would make it confusing if I used the same color scheme everywhere.
Each number within a cage must be larger than the number immediately left of it and the number immediately above it. So yes, R2C1/R2C2 can be smaller than R1C7/R1C8.
